The 1934 FIFA World Cup was the second edition of the FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international football championship for senior men's national teams. It took place in Italy from 27 May to 10 June 1934.
The tournament was won by Italy, who defeated Czechoslovakia
2–1 in the final in Rome. Italy became the first team to successfully defend
their title and were also the first to win two World Cups.

Germany, Austria, Hungary, Spain and Switzerland.
Italy was led by Vittorio Pozzo and had a strong squad that
included Giuseppe Meazza, Luis Monti and Raimundo Orsi. They won all four of
their matches in the group stage before beating Spain 1–0 in the semi-finals
and then Czechoslovakia 2–1 in the final.
Czechoslovakia was led by Josef Masopust and had a talented
squad that included Oldřich Nejedlý, František Plánička and Antonín Puč. They
finished top of their group with three wins out of three before beating Germany
3–1 in the semi-finals and then losing to Italy 2–1 in the final.
Germany was led by Sepp Herberger and had a strong squad
that included Ernst Lehner, Fritz Szepan and Willi Kress. They finished second
in their group with two wins out of three before losing to Czechoslovakia 3–1
in the semi-finals.
Austria was led by Hugo Meisl and had a talented squad that
included Matthias Sindelar, Josef Bican and Karl Sesta. They finished third in
their group with one win out of three before being eliminated by Hungary 4–2 on
penalties after a 1–1 draw after extra time in the quarter-finals.
Hungary was led by György Orth and had a strong squad that
included Gyula Zsengellér, Jenő Vincze and Gyula Lóránt. They finished top of
their group with two wins out of three before beating Austria 4–2 on penalties
after a 1–1 draw after extra time in the quarter-finals before losing to Italy
2–1 in the semi-finals.
Spain was led by José María Zarraga and had a talented squad
that included Ricardo Zamora, Isidro Lángara and José Iraragorri. They finished
second in their group with two wins out of three before losing to Italy 1–0 in
the semi-finals.
Switzerland was led by Karl Rappan and had an experienced
squad that included Robert Ballaman, Max Abegglen and André Abegglen. They
finished third in their group with one win out of three before being eliminated
by Germany 5–4 on penalties after a 0–0 draw after extra time in the
quarter-finals

Italy hosted the 1934 World Cup in Italy, after the Italian
government decided to allocate 3.5 million Italian liras as a budget for the
tournament.
This version is the first to be held according to the
qualifying system, as 32 countries decided to participate in the tournament,
and qualifiers were held, after which 16 countries qualified.
The defending champion Uruguay, who decided to boycott the
tournament because of the boycott of European countries to participate in the
first tournament in the year, missed the tournament

Egypt lost in its first appearance against Hungary, 2-4, as
Abdel Rahman Fawzi scored the first two goals for Egypt in the history of the

The Pharaohs bid farewell to the championship from the first
round, but wrote history by achieving the first participation in the World Cup.
The 1934 World Cup was held by knockouts directly from the
first round, and if the original time ended in a tie, then an additional time
of 30 minutes was resorted to. If the tie still prevails, the match will be
replayed the next day.

Hosts Italy reached the final match of the tournament after
overcoming Austria with a clean goal in the semi-finals.
While the Czechoslovakia national team qualified at the
expense of the German national team, by beating it 3-1, during which Oldrich
Neidli scored a hat-trick.
In the final match, the Azzurri team succeeded in winning
the title at the expense of Czechoslovakia in an exciting match with two goals
to one after extra time.
